Erika Gurung, the celebrated silver medalist from Nepal’s 19th Asiad team, has added to her impressive accomplishments by securing both a gold and silver medal at the US Open International Karate Championship in America.
Gurung dominated the U-21 Elite women’s 68kg weight group, winning the gold medal with a decisive 9-0 victory over her Canadian opponent.
She followed this success with a silver medal in the senior elite 68kg category. Despite a strong showing in the finals, Gurung narrowly lost 3-2 to an American competitor in a thrilling match on Monday morning.
Fellow Nepali player Biplav Lal Shrestha also competed in the tournament, reaching the semi-finals. Deepak Shrestha and Kushal Shrestha served as coaches for the Nepalese team.
