The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, home to the world’s third-highest peak, is once again bustling with domestic and international tourists as the spring season begins. This marks one of two peak tourist seasons for trekking, mountaineering, and other adventures in the region.

The spring influx typically runs from March through the first week of June. On Wednesday alone, 60 foreign visitors arrived in the Ghunsa area, prompting hotels along the trekking route to reopen.

“In the first season of this year, 650 foreigners visited the area,” shared Tasi Tenzing, an Assistant of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council. While records for domestic tourists weren’t kept during that time, last year saw 439 foreign visitors to the area.
