Rajinikanth is returning as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in Jailer 2, the sequel to Nelson Dilipkumar’s 2023 action drama. Before watching the new film, it is worth revisiting how the original transformed a retired family man into a feared force in the criminal underworld — and ended with a revelation that changed his life forever.

Jailer follows Muthuvel, a retired jailer whose peaceful life is disrupted when his son, ACP Arjun Pandian, disappears while investigating a criminal operation involving stolen temple idols. His search for answers brings him face-to-face with gangster Varman, but the biggest shock comes when Muthuvel discovers the truth about his own son.

Here is everything to remember from Jailer before watching Jailer 2.

Who Is Muthuvel Pandian In Jailer?

Rajinikanth plays Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer who lives with his family in Tamil Nadu. To those around him, he appears to be a quiet, ordinary man who enjoys spending time with his wife, Vijaya, and his grandson, Rithvik.

However, Muthuvel has a formidable past. Known as Tiger, he was a feared jailer at Tihar Jail who maintained control over dangerous criminals. His strict methods earned him enemies, but his treatment of inmates also earned him the loyalty of people who later became influential figures in the underworld.

Muthuvel has largely left that life behind when the film begins. His past returns when his son, Arjun, goes missing, forcing him to draw on old connections and confront people who underestimate him.

What Happened To Muthuvel Pandian’s Son Arjun?

Arjun, played by Vasanth Ravi, is an assistant commissioner of police investigating Varman, a gangster involved in stealing temple idols and smuggling them to overseas buyers. Arjun disappears while pursuing the case. His family is told that he may have died by suicide, leaving Muthuvel devastated and determined to find out what happened.

Muthuvel’s investigation leads him to Seenu, one of Varman’s associates. He kills Seenu, setting off a dangerous confrontation with Varman, played by Vinayakan.
