The unexpected injury took place just three possessions into Sunday morning’s divisional matchup, with the game deadlocked in a scoreless tie.
As the Texans offense set up along the line of scrimmage, Smith attempted to backpedal to gain his pre-snap vantage point behind the defensive line.
While adjusting his footing, Smith lost traction on the slick natural grass surface, causing his lower leg to buckle awkwardly beneath his weight.
Smith immediately collapsed to the turf in visible agony, clutching his lower leg as play was halted by the refereeing crew.
