The Philadelphia Eagles will face the Carolina Panthers without Jalen Hurts after placing their starting quarterback on injured reserve because of a superficial blood clot in his left calf.
The move guarantees Hurts will miss at least four games, putting Philadelphia’s season in the hands of backup Tanner McKee as the team attempts to end a three-game losing streak.
The bigger concern is that Hurts is not the only major absence.

Philadelphia is also dealing with significant injuries across its offensive line and running back room, leaving McKee with a much tougher assignment than simply replacing the starting quarterback.
Why Is Jalen Hurts on Injured Reserve?
The Eagles announced the decision on October 17 after consulting medical professionals about how to treat the blood clot.
Hurts first reported calf discomfort after Philadelphia’s October 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. An ultrasound later identified the clot, and a follow-up exam after the Eagles’ London trip showed movement, prompting further caution.
Hurts had been cleared to play against Jacksonville on October 11, completing 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown in a 19-17 loss.
His placement on injured reserve means he must miss at least four games. Philadelphia has not set a confirmed return date, so don’t treat a specific comeback game as guaranteed.
