Ilam's Ratuwa River Flood

A jeep carrying three people was swept away by a flash flood in the Ratuwa River on Monday, June 3rd, in Ilam district, Nepal. The incident occurred near Chulachuli Rural Municipality-5 Chapeti, along the unpaved section of the Damak-Larumba road.

Tragically, two passengers lost their lives in the accident. They have been identified as 30-year-old Sarmila Wanem from Mangsebung rural municipality-5 and 3-year-old Nihang Limbu, son of Niru Limbu from Mangsebung-3. Niru Limbu, who was also in the jeep, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The vehicle, a double cab Bolero with license plate number Lu 1 cha 9491, was attempting to cross the flooded river when it was swept away. All three occupants jumped from the jeep in an attempt to save themselves.

The driver, 22-year-old Netrahang Limbu, has been taken into custody by the police.
