FIFA President Apologizes for Controversial Plan

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has apologized for the mistakes made in the controversial plan to introduce private investors in FIFA competitions.

Infantino’s apology came after a meeting with the FIFA management board in Rabat, Morocco, where he acknowledged the errors made in the proposal.

Controversy Surrounding ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’

The proposal, known as ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’, aimed to bring in private investors for FIFA competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups. However, it was met with criticism from various stakeholders, including the European Football Association (UEFA), which described it as ‘opaque’ and ‘done in a closed room’.

FIFA’s Secretary-General, Matthias Grafstrom, had also criticized the proposal, calling it ‘sad and condemnable’ in an internal message to staff.

Full Support from Management Board

Despite the criticism, Infantino received full support from the management board, which expressed its confidence in him as the FIFA President.

In a joint statement, Infantino and Grafstrom apologized for the mistakes made and assured that they would not repeat them in the future.

Clarification on World Cup Hosting

FIFA also clarified that the decision on the host of the 2030 World Cup final would be made at the appropriate time, dismissing reports that Morocco had been promised the hosting rights in exchange for its support.

The organization described such claims as ‘misleading and false’, stating that the final would be hosted by the winning bidder, which could be either Spain, Portugal, or Morocco, who are jointly bidding for the tournament.
