A female police officer, Dhanmaya Gurung, was shot and killed while on duty at Damodar Chowk in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolis, Dang, on Thursday evening. She was rushed to Rapti Institute of Health Sciences, where she was pronounced dead.
The accused shooter has been identified as Gurung’s husband, Assistant Constable Yam Bahadur Jhakri. Jhakri, who is stationed at a training center in Nepalgunj, reportedly traveled to Ghorahi specifically to commit the act. He was apprehended by police near Arjun Khola in Lamhi after fleeing the scene of the crime.
Chief District Officer Ram Bandhu Subedi confirmed the arrest and stated that the incident took place around 7:30 pm.
Kuber Kadayat, chief of the Lumbini Province Police Office, indicated that the motive for the murder remains under investigation.
