Medical activist Dr. Govinda KC has embarked on his 22nd hunger strike, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. In a statement released before starting his protest in the Pashupati area on Saturday, Dr. KC accused Prachanda of being a leading figure involved in crimes against humanity and war crimes during Nepal’s armed conflict. He insists that Prachanda has no moral or legal right to remain in office until the transitional justice process is completed impartially and the victims feel justice has been served.
Dr. KC’s hunger strike includes three key demands:
- The immediate resignation of Prime Minister Prachanda.
- Ensuring quality healthcare and free medicine for all Nepalese citizens.
- Implementation of various agreements made by the government over time.
This is the 22nd time Dr. KC has resorted to a hunger strike to pressure the government for reforms, primarily in the medical sector and transitional justice process.
