New Delhi: Delhi has been placed under heightened security ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on October 10, with 221 companies of paramilitary forces comprising around 23,000 personnel deployed in the national capital. The Delhi Police have denied permission for the demonstration at Jantar Mantar, citing the late submission of the application, alleged non-compliance with conditions during a previous protest, and concerns over public safety and law and order.

The heightened security arrangements come amid the CJP’s call for a protest over alleged “vote theft” and ongoing INDIA bloc demonstrations demanding accountability from the Chief Election Commissioner.

Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said the application seeking permission for the proposed protest was received on October 7, just three days before the scheduled demonstration. Under the prevailing guidelines, applications for organising events at Jantar Mantar must be submitted at least 10 days in advance.
“On October 7, 2026, an application from Saurav Das, Co-Convenor of the Cockroach Janata Party, was received in the New Delhi District. As per the application, an intimation was given regarding a protest to be held at Jantar Mantar on October 10 concerning the accountability of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC),” Prasad said.

She added that the police had also considered the party’s previous conduct, alleging that undertakings and lawful directions issued during an earlier demonstration had not been followed. Citing procedural non-compliance and prevailing public safety, law and order, and traffic management concerns, the police denied permission for the proposed gathering.
