Church Boys United Club from Birtamod pulled off a thrilling upset, defeating hosts Jhapa 11 in a nail-biting penalty shootout to reach the Jhapa Gold Cup Football Tournament final. Neither team could break the deadlock after a scoreless 90 minutes and extra time, forcing the match to be decided from the penalty spot.
Church Boys held their nerve, clinching a 4-3 shootout victory and ending Jhapa 11’s hopes in the semifinal. They will now face the Armed Police Force (APF) in the grand final on Monday, February 28th.
APF earned their spot in the final after defeating defending champions Tribhuvan Army Football Club 1-0 in Friday’s first semifinal.
This marks a historic moment for Church Boys United as they reach their first-ever Jhapa Gold Cup final. Jhapa 11, five-time runners-up, will watch from the sidelines as the winner takes home the trophy and a Rs 1.3 million cash prize.
