Nepal’s Supreme Court has issued an interim order establishing 45 as the age limit for individuals entering the health service sector at the officer level. The order comes in response to a writ petition filed by the Nepal Medical Association (NMA).
Justice Sapana Pradan Malla’s bench issued the directive along with a show-cause order against the government, citing contradictions with existing laws. Current regulations stipulate a 21 to 45-year age range for health service officer appointments. However, recent announcements at the local, provincial, and institutional levels have lowered the age limit to 35.
The NMA challenged these announcements, arguing that they violated established regulations. The Supreme Court’s interim order supports their claim, setting the stage for a legal resolution regarding age limits within Nepal’s health service sector.
