A 35-year-old woman has died of scrub typhus in Gulmi. Sita Pokhrel, a resident of Dhurkot Municipality-4, Jaisithok, was undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Tamghas when she passed away.
According to the police, Pokhrel was admitted to the hospital on Shrawan 14 and was discharged the same day after receiving general treatment. However, she was readmitted on Shrawan 18 after her condition worsened.
The hospital declared her dead at 11 am on Shrawan 18. Her relatives have alleged that her death was due to the negligence of the doctors.
The hospital has acknowledged its weakness in not admitting the patient earlier. Following the incident, the hospital has made several decisions to improve its services, including keeping critically ill patients under observation until noon and admitting them if necessary.
The hospital has also decided to prepare a report on such incidents and submit it to the concerned authorities for necessary action. Furthermore, the hospital will hold meetings with stakeholders to improve its traffic and service management.
The hospital staff involved in the patient’s treatment will undergo behavioral change training and service-oriented training. The hospital has pledged to improve its service flow, management, and staff capacity to prevent such incidents in the future.
