Who Is Emaline In Carrie? Is She Real, What Are Her Powers And How Is She Connected To Adelaide?

Spoilers ahead for all eight episodes of Carrie (2026).

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie introduces Emaline West as a seemingly friendly student who forms a connection with Carrie White. However, as the Prime Video series progresses, Emaline’s unusual behaviour raises a question: Is she real or is Carrie imagining her?

Played by Thalía Dudek, Emaline is therefore much more than Carrie’s mysterious friend. She is a spy, a powerful psychic and a key figure in the show’s expanded supernatural world. Here’s everything to know about Emaline West, her powers, her connection to Adelaide and what her role means for the ending of Carrie.

Who Is Emaline West In Carrie?

Emaline West is a young woman with psychic abilities who approaches Carrie White after Carrie begins attending Ewen High School. She appears outgoing and friendly, offering Carrie the companionship she desperately needs while dealing with bullying, isolation and her increasingly difficult relationship with her own powers.

However, Emaline’s interest in Carrie is not entirely spontaneous. She has been sent to observe the teenager because Carrie’s abilities have attracted the attention of other people who possess supernatural gifts.

The series hints at Emaline’s true purpose early on. When Carrie questions what she is looking at, Emaline tells her, “I’m a spy and you’re my mission. I’m just surprised you caught me, that’s all.” The remark initially sounds like a joke. In hindsight, it is a direct admission of why she has approached Carrie.

Is Emaline Real In Carrie?

Yes, Emaline is real. She is not a figment of Carrie’s imagination, a ghost or simply an imaginary friend created by a lonely teenager. The twist is that the Emaline Carrie sees for much of the series is an astral projection of her consciousness. Her physical body is somewhere else, while her projected form can appear to Carrie and interact with her.

This explains why other people do not seem to notice Emaline during their conversations. It also explains the footage that Chris and Billy steal from Carrie’s house, which appears to show Carrie talking to herself.

Emaline physically reaches Carrie and helps her escape the wreckage following the destruction of the White home. Their interaction confirms that the two women are not simply products of Carrie’s imagination.

What Are Emaline’s Powers In Carrie?

Emaline possesses psychic abilities that allow her to project her consciousness away from her physical body. Her powers also make her important to the wider supernatural mythology introduced in the series.

Astral projection: Emaline’s defining ability allows her consciousness to appear somewhere other than the location of her physical body. This is how she spends time with Carrie without being physically present at school or elsewhere.
