Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud scripted a new chapter in the country’s Test cricket history on Sunday, October 11, by becoming the first pacer from Bangladesh to claim a hat-trick in the longest format. The 26-year-old achieved the milestone on Day 3 of the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, dismissing Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad and Zia-ur-Rehman off three consecutive deliveries. His remarkable burst added a significant moment to Bangladesh’s cricketing journey and further highlighted his growing impact at the international level.
Mahmud’s latest achievement comes after an impressive period in his Test career. He played a key role in Bangladesh’s historic first Test victory on Australian soil a couple of months ago, finishing that match with nine wickets. Against Afghanistan, the right-arm quick once again troubled the opposition’s batting line-up, combining accuracy and pace to deliver a memorable spell. His hat-trick not only strengthened Bangladesh’s position in the contest but also secured him a place in the country’s record books.
