The United States Men’s Cricket Team got their ICC T20 World Cup campaign off to a flying start with a convincing 7-wicket victory over Canada in the Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas tournament opener.
Powered by strong performances from openers Aaron Jones (94 runs off 40 balls) and Andries Gous (65 runs off 46 balls), the USA chased down the target of 194 runs set by Canada with relative ease, reaching 197/3 in 17.4 overs.
For Canada, Navneet Dhaliwal scored 61 runs off 44 deliveries, while Nicholas Kirton chipped in with 51 runs off 31 balls. Shreyas Movva (32 off 16) and Harmeet Singh (27 off 4) provided some lusty blows towards the end as Canada posted 194/5 in their 20 overs.
However, the Canadian bowling attack had no answers against the aggressive US batting lineup. Dillon Heyliger (19 off 3) and Kaleem Sana (34 off 4) struck some handy cameos in the chase.
Despite a promising start, Canada will be disappointed with their inability to defend what seemed a competitive total on the day. The United States’ thumping 7-wicket win in the ICC T20 World Cup opener underscores their growing strength in cricket.
