Yemen’s Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba has called on European countries to take a stronger role in addressing the escalating fighting between Houthi forces and Yemeni government troops in Taiz. The appeal comes as the conflict worsens humanitarian conditions and threatens access to essential supplies.
According to Yemen’s Foreign Ministry, al-Zouba raised the issue during a phone call with European Union Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet. She discussed the impact of the Houthi military escalation, the tightening siege around Taiz and the growing difficulties faced by civilians.
The ministry said more than four million people in Taiz Governorate were affected by the crisis. Al-Zouba urged the EU to play a more active role in limiting the impact of the fighting and supporting efforts to restore stability.
