Tom Nolan delivered the biggest victory of his MMA career at UFC Vegas 123, stopping Renato Moicano with a third-round TKO in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The Australian extended his winning streak to six fights and made a statement in his first promotional main-event appearance, overcoming Moicano’s early grappling pressure before taking control and securing the stoppage at 1:28 of the third round.
Moicano looked to impose his ground game from the opening bell, taking Nolan down and working towards a rear-naked choke in the first round. However, Nolan defended the submission attempts, found his opening in the second and finished the fight with a powerful display of striking and ground-and-pound in the third.
Tom Nolan Turns The Fight Around To Stop Renato Moicano
Moicano (21-8-1) started strongly, answering Nolan’s opening body kicks with a well-timed takedown. The Brazilian quickly moved to back control and searched for his trademark rear-naked choke, but Nolan remained composed and protected his neck until the round ended.
Moicano repeated the approach in the second round, securing another takedown and locking in a body triangle. However, after referee Dan Miragliotta called for a stand-up midway through the round, the momentum shifted.
Nolan (12-1) unleashed a sharp combination that staggered Moicano before taking him down himself. The Australian continued attacking and came close to forcing a stoppage before the second-round horn.
He needed little time to finish the contest in the third. Nolan landed heavy punches to rock Moicano, who attempted a takedown to escape the pressure. Nolan reversed the attempt, moved into top position and delivered a series of unanswered strikes until Miragliotta stepped in at 1:28.
