A series of violent shooting incidents shattered Halloween weekend celebrations across multiple university towns and urban nightlife districts in the US, leaving at least three people dead and more than thirty others wounded.
Local police forces and emergency medical services were overwhelmed late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning as chaotic scenes erupted near major higher education institutions, including the University of Delaware and campuses in Arkansas and Illinois. The sudden outbreaks of gunfire forced thousands of students and revellers to scatter into nearby alleyways and storefronts, transforming festive holiday gatherings into active crime scenes.
“We are reviewing every piece of available evidence and footage to determine what triggered these horrific acts of violence during what should have been a celebratory community weekend,” a senior municipal law enforcement official told regional news correspondents.
