The Trap Review: The Netflix’s German psychological thriller The Trap builds its story around a disturbing question: what happens when a person becomes convinced that she has finally found the man responsible for destroying her life? Led by Friederike Becht and Hans Löw, the six-episode miniseries combines an old murder, a troubled protagonist and a dangerous meeting that could change everything. The series premiered on Netflix on October 13, 2026.

Directed by Isabel Kleefeld and based on Melanie Raabe’s novel of the same name, The Trap explores grief, memory, revenge and the difficulty of distinguishing truth from suspicion. While the premise promises an intense psychological battle, the series does not maintain the same level of tension throughout its runtime.

The Trap Plot: What Is The Netflix Series About?

The story follows Lisa Konrad, a successful author who has withdrawn from the outside world since witnessing the murder of her younger sister nearly a decade earlier. The trauma has kept her confined to her home, where memories of the crime continue to shape her life.

Everything changes when Lisa believes she recognises the man responsible for her sister’s death while watching television. Convinced that she has found the person who escaped justice, she decides to take matters into her own hands.

Lisa invites journalist Robert Lenzen to her home for an interview. What appears to be a professional meeting is actually part of a carefully considered plan to confront the man she suspects. She intends to use herself as bait, hoping to uncover the truth and get closer to the justice she has been seeking.

However, as the conversation progresses, the balance of power becomes increasingly difficult to determine. Lisa believes she is controlling the situation, but Robert’s presence raises questions about how much she truly knows. The central mystery is not simply whether she has identified the right man, but whether her memories and assumptions can be trusted.
