Netflix’s The Diplomat returns with its fourth season which has brought back the political tension, complicated relationships and unexpected twists that have made the series a favourite among fans of political dramas. Led by Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell, the new season raises the stakes for its characters as personal conflicts begin to threaten international relations. With Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford playing increasingly important roles, the series once again combines political battles with the messiness of relationships.

What Happened In The Diplomat Season 3?

Season 3 ended with a political crisis that could have serious consequences for both the United States and the United Kingdom. After President Rayburn’s death in Season 2, Grace Penn became the US President and offered Hal Wyler the position of Vice President. Hal accepted the role, putting him at the centre of American politics while his wife, Kate, continued her diplomatic work in London.

Meanwhile, Kate was dealing with the breakdown of her marriage to Hal. Their relationship became increasingly strained as their professional ambitions and personal disagreements pulled them apart. Kate briefly became involved with British intelligence officer Callum Ellis, but eventually realised that she still wanted to be with Hal. The couple reconciled towards the end of the season, suggesting that they might finally have a chance to repair their marriage.

However, that moment of hope did not last long. Kate discovered that a Russian submarine carrying the Poseidon, a devastating nuclear weapon, had been found off the British coast. The United States and the United Kingdom were already struggling to maintain their relationship after the attack on the British warship HMS Courageous. The discovery of the weapon made the situation even more dangerous.

Kate then began to suspect that Grace and Hal had secretly taken the Poseidon instead of simply monitoring the submarine. When she confronted Hal, he told her to tell no one. The season ended with Kate watching her husband and the President together, realising that they might be involved in a conspiracy with potentially devastating international consequences.

What Is The Diplomat Season 4 About?

Season 4 picks up from this tense ending of Season 3 with Kate caught between her responsibilities as a diplomat and her growing suspicion that her own husband is involved in a dangerous political scheme. The possible theft of Russia’s Poseidon weapon threatens to damage the already fragile relationship between Washington and London and could push both countries towards a major confrontation.
