On Friday, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), an Indian IT major, said that the temporary suspension of the US Government’s PERM program would have no effect on its recruitment strategies and customer engagement. It explained its expectations of negligible impact on the basis of low applications it had filed in the program over the past few years.
“Our US PERM applications were single digit in the last two years and hence we do not expect the suspension of the program to impact our workforce strategy and customer engagements,” TCS said in its statement.
TCS, however, reaffirmed its plan of recruiting additional 15,000 workers over the next five years in the US market.

This announcement came a day after the US government placed restrictions on eight major technology firms, which include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech and Cognizant, from the PERM labor certification program. The three other companies mentioned in the list of the affected firms include Capgemini, Microsoft and Adobe.
This is just part of the broader efforts by the current Trump administration to conduct a thorough review of employment-based immigration programs. According to allegations by US officials, there are some firms which favor foreign worker channels than American ones. However, the inclusion of the above firms in the restriction program does not automatically mean that these firms have broken any law.
