Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, the TAIEX, declined on Monday, October 19, 2026, as losses in major technology stocks weighed on market sentiment. The index touched its lowest level since September 17, tracking weakness across Asian markets following a technology-led sell-off on Wall Street.

Around noon, the TAIEX fell 654 points, or 1.4%, to 46,457. Separately, market data showed the index at 46,728.34, down 0.81% from the previous session.

Why Is Taiwan’s Stock Market Falling?

Technology shares were among the biggest drags on the Taiwanese market, with investors concerned about AI-related investment and the recent weakness in US technology stocks. The electronic technology sector declined 1.8%, reversing its modest gain in the previous session. Most other sectors also traded lower.
