KATHMANDU, NEPAL – The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office of the Nepal Police has successfully rescued four Sri Lankan citizens held hostage by Pakistani nationals under false promises of foreign employment. The police arrested the perpetrators, identified as 57-year-old Zubair Amzad, 42-year-old Shah Jehan Tanbir, 61-year-old Malik Abdul Hamid, and 44-year-old Arif Masih.

The suspects allegedly lured the Sri Lankan victims to Nepal with promises of lucrative jobs in Canada, Romania, and Greece. Upon arrival, the victims were held captive in hotels within Kathmandu’s Thamel and Bus Park areas. Their passports were seized, and they were subjected to extortion, physical assault, and threats aimed at preventing contact with their families.

“The suspicious activities of the perpetrators came to the attention of our duty team. Following this information, the incident was brought to light,” stated SP Nakul Pokharel, spokesperson for the Crime Investigation Office.

The four Pakistani nationals are now in the custody of the Kathmandu District Police Range in Teku. They face charges of kidnapping and hostage-taking, and further investigations are underway.
