Indian equity benchmarks staged a strong recovery on Thursday after the previous session’s losses, with gains in information technology, banking and consumer stocks supporting the rebound. The BSE Sensex rose more than 1,000 points to 73,782, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained nearly 300 points to move above 22,900 at 10.17 am.

The rally came alongside a rise of more than 1% in the India VIX, indicating that volatility remained elevated. While heavyweight stocks advanced, weakness persisted among several smallcap shares.

Which stocks gained and lost?

TCS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and ITC featured among the leading Sensex gainers. In contrast, BEL, Adani Ports, Trent, Power Grid Corporation, SBI, Larsen & Toubro and NTPC were among the notable laggards.

4 Factors Driving the Stock Market Rally

1. IT stocks extend their winning streak

Information technology shares continued to advance for a third consecutive session, with TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra among the stocks attracting investor interest.

The gains followed corporate earnings announcements and developments in AI-linked stocks. The correction in some artificial intelligence shares has also drawn attention from investors assessing valuations and opportunities across the technology sector.
