Russia Ukraine War Latest News: US President Donald Trump has maintained that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure. He has urged both countries to bring an end to what he described as a “ridiculous” war.
Trump made the remarks on Monday, even as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian forces had attacked at least six energy facilities in Ukraine since the US president announced the ceasefire on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to the proposed pause in attacks.

“Well, they agreed,” Trump told reporters, referring to Zelenskyy and Putin. “Because I said, ‘You agree’. That’s why they agreed, because I said they agree.”
When asked about reports of continued Russian attacks, Trump acknowledged that there could have been violations of the arrangement.
“Well, I’d have to look at it and see, because there’s been violations on both sides,” he said.
The US president described the conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, as a “disaster”. He also claimed, without providing evidence, that at least 32,000 people had been killed during the current month alone.
“All I know is that Zelenskyy and Putin have to get together and end that ridiculous war,” Trump said.
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Kyiv Says Moscow Has Continued Attacks
Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire on Sunday reportedly caught Ukraine and its European allies off guard. The declaration came two days after his administration temporarily eased US sanctions on Russian diesel, a decision that triggered criticism from Ukraine and several European countries.
Zelenskyy argued that relaxing the restrictions weakened years of Western efforts to isolate Russia economically. He warned that the decision could encourage Putin to continue the war.
The diesel arrangement has also faced criticism from lawmakers belonging to both major political parties in the US. Several Republicans have questioned whether the move complies with US law, arguing that it could undermine legislation signed by Trump himself to strengthen restrictions on Moscow.
