Russia-Ukraine War Latest News: Rosatom, the state nuclear company of Russia, announced on Thursday that a ceasefire agreement has been made in order to conduct repairs at a thermal power plant providing electricity to the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in eastern Ukraine.

This was made possible through the cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that promotes nuclear safety. This ceasefire agreement aims to enable experts to conduct repairs on the damaged power infrastructure of the nuclear power plant. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was captured by the Russian troops at the onset of the war in 2022. Even if the plant does not produce electricity, it needs an external power source to ensure that the nuclear fuel remains cool and safe systems run properly.

There are two external power sources in the facility, and the damage done to the power supply of the plant has caused concern for the operation of the plant. The plant reported in September that its power source was damaged by shelling.
