Oman Sets Modest Target

Oman got off to a shaky start in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, setting a modest target of 110 runs for Namibia in their Group B encounter at Kensington Oval, Barbados.

Sent into bat after losing the toss, Oman could only manage 109 runs in their allotted 19.4 overs. Opener Khalid Kail top-scored with 34 runs, while Zeeshan Maqsood (22 runs), Ayan Khan (15 runs), and Shakeel Ahmed (11 runs) were the only other batsmen to reach double digits. Namibia’s bowling attack shared the spoils effectively, with Ruben Trumpelmann taking a four-wicket haul and David Wiese chipping in with three wickets. Gerhard Erasmus and Bernard Scholtz also picked up a wicket each, restricting Oman to a below-par total.

This is the first match of the T20 World Cup for both teams. Namibia participated in the 2021 and 2022 editions, while Oman played in the 2016 and 2021 tournaments. The stage is now set for Namibia to chase down the target and secure an early lead in Group B.
