Nine people were injured when a gas tanker collided with an e-rickshaw in Birgunj on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred at around 8 pm on the Hulaki road section in Bahrauni Chowk, Birgunj Metropolitan City-24. According to the police, the e-rickshaw with license plate number 2 Ha 6682 was heading towards Tilawe Pul from Power House when it was hit from behind by the gas tanker with license plate number RJ 14 G E 8710, which was traveling in the same direction.
The gas tanker fled the scene after the collision. The injured e-rickshaw passengers were rescued and taken to Narayani Neuro Hospital in Birgunj for treatment. Six of the injured are in critical condition, while three are in moderate condition.
The police have taken the gas tanker and its driver into custody. The driver, identified as 48-year-old Dhaneshwar Rai from Sahibganj, Muzaffarpur district, India, was found to have consumed intoxicating substances during a health checkup.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
