Nine people were injured when a gas tanker collided with an e-rickshaw in Birgunj on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 8 pm at Hulaki Road in Birgunj Metropolitan City-24, Bahauri Chowk, when the e-rickshaw (Na 2 Ha 6682) heading towards Tilawe Pul from Power House was hit from behind by the gas tanker (RJ 14 GE 8710) coming from the same direction, according to the police.
The tanker driver fled the scene after the accident. The injured e-rickshaw passengers were rescued and taken to Narayani Neuro Hospital in Birgunj for treatment.
Among the injured, six are in critical condition and three have sustained minor injuries. The police have taken the gas tanker and its driver, 48-year-old Dhaneshwar Rai from Sahibganj, Muzaffarpur district, India, under control.
According to the police, the driver’s health check revealed that he had consumed intoxicating substances. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
