Nepal’s Jumla Collects NPR 481 Million in Revenue

Jumla’s Inland Revenue Office collected NPR 481.22 million in revenue in the fiscal year 2082/83, achieving 74.45% of its target.

According to the office’s chief, Prabhat Ghimire, the revenue collection included NPR 381.52 million in income tax, NPR 98.89 million in value-added tax (VAT), NPR 8.58 million in excise duty, and NPR 14.33 million in other taxes.

Revenue Collection Breakdown

The office attributed the increase in revenue collection to its efforts to educate taxpayers and provide them with better services, prioritizing large and small businesses, including construction companies.

The office also conducted 74 market inspections from Baisakh to Ashar, including seven advance tax audits, one full tax audit, 20 quick tax audits, 19 collection visits, and five taxpayer education programs.

Comparison with Previous Year

Although income tax collection increased compared to the previous year, VAT collection decreased due to the economic slowdown and reduced capital expenditure by government agencies.

As of now, 1,750 VAT taxpayers, 17,084 income taxpayers, and 565 excise taxpayers have registered with the office.

The office’s jurisdiction covers Jumla, Mugu, and Kalikot districts, and it has also been providing taxpayer services in coordination with Tilagufa and Raskot municipalities in Kalikot.

In the previous fiscal year 2081/82, the office collected NPR 541.41 million in revenue.
