A Nepali man has been arrested in India’s Uttarakhand state for allegedly broadcasting child abuse content on Facebook.

Veer Bhan Ram Lawad, a 32-year-old resident of Mahakali Municipality-9 in Nepal’s Darchula district, was taken into custody by the Pithoragarh police as part of a cybercrime operation.

Lawad has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the court. He has been charged under Section 67(b) of India’s Information Technology Act, 2000, by the Baluwakot police station.

During the investigation, police found that Lawad had sent and broadcast child abuse content to various individuals through Facebook. A technical analysis revealed that the mobile SIM used to broadcast the content was registered in the name of a woman from Baluwakot, but was actually being used by Lawad.

After collecting necessary evidence, a team from the Pithoragarh police arrested Lawad on August 4 (Shrawan 19).

Lawad’s arrest has been confirmed by the Indian police, who stated that he has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
