Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies have stepped up market monitoring to curb black market sales of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ensure smooth supply.
The move comes after the Ministry of Industry received numerous complaints and reports of artificial shortages and black market sales of LPG, despite no issues with imports from India.
According to Netra Prasad Suvedi, joint secretary at the Ministry of Industry, market monitoring has been made more effective and continuous, and the supply of LPG has started to ease.
Despite the easing of supply, some traders have been found to be creating artificial shortages and selling LPG at higher prices, prompting Minister of Industry Gauri Kumari Yadav to request Home Minister Sudhan Gurung to deploy security personnel at LPG depots in the Kathmandu Valley to control such activities.
Following Minister Yadav’s request, Home Minister Gurung directed the police administration to provide necessary coordination and facilitation, according to the Home Minister’s private secretariat.
