Nawaz Sharif’s Sons Return to Pakistan After Six-Year Exile

March 13, 2024
Nawaz Sharif's Sons

Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, have returned to Pakistan after a six-year self-imposed exile in London. Their return follows last week’s suspension of their arrest warrants in corruption cases linked to the Panama Papers scandal.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) maintained a low profile for the arrival, with no prior media notification. Hussain and Hassan landed at Lahore airport and were escorted to their Jati Umra residence under heavy security.

The brothers fled Pakistan in 2018 facing corruption charges and were subsequently declared proclaimed offenders. An Islamabad accountability court suspended their arrest warrants until March 14th, allowing them to return and face the proceedings. They have indicated their intent to surrender and appear before the court.
