Mumbai police detained Tushar Gandhi, president of Hum Bharat Ke Log, and a few other organisers of the Mumbai protest on Saturday (October 10, 2026). The detentions occurred ahead of a protest at August Kranti Maidan. The protest supported a demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Police picked up Mr. Gandhi at the National College intersection. Police took him to the DN Nagar police station.

Later, Shiv Sena UBT leaders led by Aaditya Thackeray reached the police station. They sought the release of Mr. Gandhi. Mr Thackeray said that the party workers will reach outside the police station if Mr. Gandhi is not released by the police.

“We will continue our protest despite detention. We appeal to everyone to reach August Kranti Maidan today afternoon,” Tushar Gandhi and organisers said. The organisers said the police detained them.

Mr. Gandhi said that the police picked him up at the National College intersection. Initially, the police took him to Santa Cruz Police Station and later brought him to DN Nagar. He appealed; the protest continues. He said that he was in custody at DN Nagar Police Station. Mr. Gandhi said the police might take his phone. Organisers said that a few other leaders, including Feroze Mithoborewala, were also allegedly detained by the police.
