MetLife Nepal Legacy Trees

MetLife Nepal has launched a touching initiative, the Legacy Trees Program, where a tree is planted in memory of each life insurance policyholder who passes away. This act serves as a lasting tribute to those lost while also combating deforestation and promoting a healthier environment. Beneficiaries receive a letter honoring their loved one and the tree planted in their name.

The program, implemented by the Arbor Day Foundation and their implementing partner Ecoculture, has already planted 7,000 trees in the Bara District, aiding in reforestation. In addition to the emotional impact, the Arbor Day Foundation estimates these trees will have a significant environmental benefit over 40 years, sequestering approximately 764 metric tons of carbon dioxide, preventing around 3,220 gallons of water runoff, and removing roughly 11.88 tons of air pollutants. This program aligns with MetLife’s sustainability goals, promoting jobs, community support, and environmental education.
