A forest fire in the Rungkhadaha community forest of Gulmi district’s Gulmidarbar rural municipality ward no. 4 spread to a nearby power substation. The resulting blaze caused an estimated financial loss of over 1.5 million rupees, according to Arjun Pokharel, Head of the Gulmi Distribution Center of Nepal Electricity Authority.
The fire destroyed electrification materials that were stored at the site, hindering efforts to expand power access in the district.
Nepal Police, Armed Police, residents, and fire engines collaborated to bring the fire under control. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Pokharel of the District Police Office, Gulmi, managed the response efforts.
Authorities warn that recent days have seen a concerning increase in forest fire incidents throughout the district, with human error identified as the primary cause.
