Nearly a month after the murder of 83-year-old Lakshmi Tamang, police in Banepa, Nepal have arrested a suspect. The accused is 29-year-old Abhishek Acharya, a resident of Sunsari and a former tenant in the house where the crime occurred.
Ms. Tamang was found dead on February 23rd in the Bhaisepati home of Basanta Shrestha, where she was staying. Gold earrings were missing from the scene. Police investigations have also revealed Acharya to be a drug user.
The District Court of Kavre has granted a 5-day remand to the police to continue their investigation into the murder.
