KATHMANDU: Lawmakers questioned the ambassador-designate to China, Dr. Kalyanraj Sharma, on various pressing issues during a parliamentary hearing held on Monday. Following the presentation of his action plan, members of the parliamentary committee raised concerns regarding the Nepal-China trade deficit, border crossings, and investment.
Committee member Rajiv Khatri asked about plans to reduce the trade deficit between the two nations and inquired about initiatives to regularize international flights at Pokhara and Bhairahawa airports. Lawmaker Madhukumar Chaulagain questioned the nominee on the promotion of exports such as Buddha Chitta, as well as the development of wellness tourism and the promotion of Namo Buddha. He further urged the ambassador-designate to clarify how he would balance Nepal’s national interests with China’s security concerns.
