Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the vice president of the CPN Maoist Center, has been arrested. The Inspector General of Police (IG) Basanta Kunwar disclosed that Mahara was detained in Kapilvastu and is currently en route to Kathmandu for further proceedings.
A high-level commission tasked with investigating gold smuggling had recommended legal action against Mahara. Following the directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs, law enforcement authorities took swift action.
Previously, Mahara had provided a statement to the Commission. Additionally, his son, Rahul Mahara, is currently in custody awaiting trial in connection with the gold smuggling case involving electronic cigarettes (Vapes).
