Kim Jong Un Death Rumours: North Korea has released fresh photographs of Kim Jong Un inspecting clothing and footwear at an exhibition, drawing international attention after unverified social media claims suggested that the country’s leader had suffered a severe brain haemorrhage and died. The images, published by state media on October 20, show Kim examining children’s shoes, inspecting women’s coats and speaking with officials, offering a glimpse of his reported public activities amid growing speculation about his health.
The photographs have renewed focus on how North Korea responds to rumours surrounding its secretive leader. Although the state media report describes Kim’s latest visit, the images have not been independently authenticated, and the precise time they were taken remains unclear.
The allegations originated with a Chinese dissident based in the United States and spread through several international media outlets. Claims that China had sent thousands of troops to Pyongyang amid a possible leadership crisis also circulated online, but the allegations have not been supported by independently verifiable evidence.

Kim Jong Un Latest News: What Do the New Photos Show?
North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim visited the 2026 National Garment and Footwear Exhibition on October 19. State media published photographs of the visit on October 20, showing him accompanied by his daughter, Kim Ju-ae, and his wife, Ri Sol-ju.
The exhibition featured thousands of garments and more than 170,000 pairs of shoes produced by factories across the country. Kim examined children’s footwear, touched a coat displayed on a mannequin and spoke animatedly with officials during the tour.
The visit also highlighted the government’s efforts to promote domestic manufacturing and its regional development policy. However, the timing of the photographs has drawn particular attention because they appeared shortly after reports about Kim’s alleged medical emergency spread online.
Kim Jong Un Death Rumours: How Did the Claims Begin?
The speculation began circulating on social media over the weekend, with Wanjun Xie, a Chinese dissident based in the United States who claims to lead the China Democracy Party, making allegations about Kim’s health.
Xie claimed that Kim had suffered a severe cerebral haemorrhage and fallen into a coma. He alleged that medical specialists from Peking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing had travelled to North Korea to treat the leader before authorities transferred him to China.
Xie subsequently claimed that Kim had died and that officials had secretly returned his body to North Korea. He also alleged that China had deployed 9,000 troops to Pyongyang amid concerns about political instability and a possible succession crisis.
However, Xie did not provide medical records, identifiable eyewitnesses or other independently verifiable evidence to support these claims. Neither the alleged death nor the reported Chinese troop deployment has been independently confirmed.
