Kathmandu Police Crack Down on Illegal Online Gambling Ring

KATHMANDU, NEPAL – The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, headquartered in Min Bhawan, announced the arrest of six individuals suspected of running an illegal online gambling operation. The arrests were made on Tuesday, following an investigation into the use of a cash app to facilitate online casino games.

Those arrested include:

  • Sunil Thakur (24), of Sarlahi, resident of Tokha Municipality
  • Rambir Thakur (26), a resident of Tokha Municipality
  • Pramis Shrestha (22), of Morang, resident of Tokha Municipality
  • Prasaya Jamkattel (22), of Budhanilkantha Municipality
  • Tenzing Chok (age not provided),
  • Dipnoj Khatri (22), of Jhapa, resident of Baluwakhani, Kathmandu
  • Swaraj Shrestha (29), of Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality

Police seized several electronic devices believed to have been used in the operation, including:

  • 5 laptops
  • 8 mobile phones
  • 1 CPU

Gambling is generally illegal in Nepal, with specific exceptions for certain lottery activities and during specific festivals. Online gambling carries stricter regulations. Authorities are continuing to investigate this case and further charges may follow.
