Nepal’s major internet service providers, including Worldlink, Subisu, and Vianet, have experienced significant disruptions since Thursday afternoon. The cause is attributed to unpaid bills owed to the Indian bandwidth provider, Airtel.

According to World Link CEO Keshav Nepal, Airtel has disrupted internet services due to outstanding payments. Nepali internet providers owe roughly 3 billion rupees for the past year’s bandwidth usage.

Both the CEO of Worldlink and the Internet Service Provider Association (ISPAN) president, Sudhir Parajuli, cite government restrictions as the reason for the unpaid bills. ISPAN had previously issued warnings regarding potential internet shutdowns.

The situation remains critical, and if the outstanding balance to Airtel is not resolved, Nepal could face a complete internet blackout.
