Imran Khan, Girlfriend Lekha Washington Booked After Mumbai Protest Detention; FIR Filed Over August Kranti Maidan Incident

An FIR has been filed against the actor Imran Khan, his girlfriend Lekha Washington, and others by the Mumbai Police with regard to the protest that took place in August Kranti Maidan, Mumbai. This has happened since some individuals were arrested during the protest on October 11. This protest was organized in support of the CJP protest held in Delhi, where the CJP asked for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The matter has gained prominence due to the ongoing controversy associated with the SIR process. 

Mumbai Police Register FIR Under BNS Sections Over August Kranti Maidan Protest

As per the information provided by the Mumbai Police, the FIR is registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections include 223, concerning disobedience of an order duly made by a public servant, as well as 126(2) concerning wrongful restraint. Sections 189(2), 189(3) and 189(5), which pertain to unlawful assembly and conduct thereof, are included in the FIR too. The complaint in the case has been lodged by the police itself. The registration of the FIR has become yet another event after the protest, even though the allegations stated in the case cannot be seen as evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of the protesters.
