Three people lost a combined ₹5.35 crore to cyber fraudsters in three separate incidents reported in Hyderabad, prompting Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar to warn citizens against digital arrest scams, fraudulent trading applications and impersonation attacks.

Mr. Sajjanar said cybercriminals were using increasingly sophisticated methods to target people and stressed that public awareness and vigilance were crucial to preventing financial losses.

In one of the cases, a company accountant transferred ₹2.7 crore after opening an unidentified ZIP file and acting on fraudulent WhatsApp messages purportedly sent by the company’s chief executive officer. According to the police, the fraud went undetected for nearly eight days, even as bank transaction alerts were being generated.
