KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has fined 14 internet service providers Rs 50,000 each after they were proved operating the services against criteria endorsed by it.

According to a press release issued by the NTA, it has decided to fine such number of ISPs in accordance with Section 47(1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2053, after an inspection and probe report confirmed that they had violated the terms of the license issued by the Authority.

NTA Spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said the service providers face action for not providing services as per the endorsed package, overcharging customers, selling packages different from approved ones and not informing customers about such packages on time.

He added that NTA action aims at curbing such practices which are unethical.
