A major fire devastated Jayanagar village in Barju rural municipality-4 of Sunsari on Sunday afternoon. Authorities report the loss of 27 homes.
The blaze began at 3 pm in the closely-built, primarily Muslim settlement. Fire crews from multiple municipalities, including Biratnagar, responded and eventually brought the fire under control, according to Barju-4 ward president Binod Bahadur Gurung.
Sunsari Superintendent of Police Bipin Regmi estimates damages at approximately 45 lakh 50 thousand rupees. Relief efforts for affected residents are currently underway.
