Donald Trump News: A few weeks ago, multiple members of the White House Press Pool decided to boycott Donald Trump after he slammed CNN, MSNOW and Politico for allegedly reporting ‘fake news’. Now his administration has decided to investigate multiple news outlets over the decision. President Trump has had a contentious relationship with the press during his second tenure so far. 

Donald Trump News: DOJ to Investigate 5 News Outlets Over Trump Boycott

The Justice Department has confirmed it is looking into whether the television networks’ joint decision to halt presidential coverage violated US antitrust laws. The five broadcasters being examined are ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC.

A department spokesperson stated that the investigation will establish whether the news organisations broke antitrust laws through their coordinated action.  “The Antitrust Division is simply investigating to determine whether these news organizations have violated the antitrust laws” , they explained.

The department has said the inquiry is preliminary, centering on whether the decision amounted to an unlawful group boycott. It comes amid a longstanding row between the American press and President Trump. 

Donald Trump News: Why Did the News Outlets Boycott Trump? 

The dispute escalated in September when the Trump administration limited White House access for journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico. The administration’s action drew a reaction from the television press pool, a coalition of broadcasters that shares the duty and expense of filming presidential events and sharing the footage with other news outlets.
