What Is Jailer About?
Released in 2023, Jailer follows Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, played by Rajinikanth, a retired jailer who lives a relatively quiet life with his family. He is a husband, father and grandfather, and his days appear far removed from the violent world he once inhabited. His peaceful life changes when his son, Assistant Commissioner of Police Arjun Pandian, goes missing while investigating Varman, a gangster involved in the illegal smuggling of idols.
The police suggest that Arjun may have died by suicide, leaving Muthuvel devastated. As he struggles with the apparent loss of his son, he begins investigating what happened and takes matters into his own hands.
The investigation brings him into direct conflict with Varman, played by Vinayakan. The film’s central reveal is that Muthuvel is not simply a retired government employee. He was once a ruthless and influential jailer whose reputation commands respect and fear even among criminals.
