Haze enveloped parts of Delhi on Wednesday, October 21, amid worsening air quality in the national capital. The AQI in Delhi was recorded at 227 at 7:05 am, according to an article reporting the data in the “poor” range. The Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) had also predicted that the air quality in the region will remain poor in coming days.

The “poor” range for air quality index is 201 to 300. Prolonged exposure to contaminated air can result in difficulty breathing, especially in those with respiratory problems and other vulnerable groups.

The AQI in Delhi was recorded at 179 on Tuesday, October 20, falling in the “moderate” range. The increase in the index showed that air quality worsened. Poor air quality was also observed in the cities of Ghaziabad, Noida, and worse in Gurugram, according to the preliminary report.

Delhi AQI Forecast: Poor Air Quality Likely To Persist

As per AQEWS forecast, the air quality in Delhi is estimated to stay in the poor category on October 21, 22, and 23, with similar conditions prevailing on later dates too.

Weather factors like the speed of winds, temperature, and the movement of air pollutants in the atmosphere affect the air quality. Lacking rainfall can also prevent the elimination of air pollutants, leading to increased pollution levels.

People, especially children, senior citizens, and those suffering from heart and lungs diseases, need to be careful if pollution levels are high. Avoiding outdoor activities can minimize exposure to polluted air.
